Electropolishing is an electrochemical process that provides a variety of benefits, including deburring, micro finish improvement, and improved corrosion resistance by eliminating embedded contaminants and surface imperfections.
Stainless Steel Electropolishing

Jinyuan provides in-house Electropolishing & Passivation services for various applications in the semiconductor and medical industries. We have solutions that can handle standard grade (304, 316) stainless steel. Our staff is highly skilled and experienced in providing stainless steel solutions. They have the necessary training and expertise to give a fantastic result.

Advantages Of Stainless Steel Electropolishing

All stainless steels are iron-based alloys with a minimum chromium content of 10.5%. The chromium amount contributes to the basic corrosion resistance of stainless steel. The chromium spontaneously forms a passive oxide layer when exposed to oxygen. This passive oxide layer is very thin but prevents additional oxygen diffusion into the base material and prevents corrosion. Electropolishing in stainless steel enhances the passive oxide layer by making it thicker and thus more resistant to harsh environments.

Enhancing corrosion resistance is not the only benefit when electropolishing stainless steel. Below are a few other benefits:

  1. Creates a smooth, bright finish that is aesthetically pleasing
  2. Deburrs and breaking sharp edges
  3. Removes hydrogen, which can contribute to metal fatigue and bacterial growth
  4. Removes Electrical Discharge Machining (EDM) recast layers
  5. Removes discoloration that may occur in heat treating
  6. Ultraclean finish, Improves the hygienic properties of the surface
  7. Improves the corrosion resistance properties of the surface
  8. Microscopically precise removal of surface material with tolerances of up to +/-.0002”(0.005mm)
  9. Leaves parts with enhanced durability and cycle life
Electropolishing: High Quality Results For The Semiconductor Industry

Every step of our process has been meticulously designed to achieve the highest quality results for our clients from start to finish: our rinsing process is another critical differentiator for our semiconductor industry clients. Achieving a consistent rinse is key to attaining ultraclean results. Our processes include deionized (DI) water, multiple rinsing, ultrasonic rinsing when necessary, and centrifugal drying to ensure that parts emerge from our processes with an ultrasmooth, ultraclean, and defect contaminant-free surface. Our work adheres to semiconductor-specific industry standards (SEMI F19-0185) and general industry standards commonly used like ASTM B912.
